What it actually does
Markate runs the paperwork of a service business from first call to paid invoice. You track leads in a pipeline, send estimates with options or packages, convert them to work orders, schedule on a drag-and-drop calendar, and invoice when the job is done. Recurring and progressive work orders and invoices are in the base plan, along with job costing, expenses, mileage logs, time tracking, payroll reports, and QuickBooks Online sync. Cleaning, landscaping, handyman, painting, and holiday lighting businesses are the ones it names on its own menu.
The price has two parts. The base is $49.95 a month for the owner, or $45.95 a month if you pay $551.40 for the year. Every employee who needs the app is $5 a month. That part is cheap. An owner with four employees pays $69.95 a month.
The second part is the add-on list, and that is where the bill gets decided. Online booking, a branded customer portal, automated review requests, sales proposal templates, a website contact form, Zapier, a business phone number, and call forwarding are $10 a month each. API access is $50 a month. The AI receptionist is $1 a call. Texting campaigns run 10 cents a message, SMS blasts are $10 to set up plus 5 cents a segment, and postcards are $1.10 each.
Who should buy it
Buy it
Buy it if you are one person, or one person with a few helpers, and you mainly need estimates, scheduling, invoices, and payments without paying for a sales team’s software. At $49.95 for the owner and $5 a head, a five-person business pays $69.95 for the core. That is well under Jobber Core at $49 for one user plus $29 per added user on our card, and close to Kickserv Start at $60 for five users.
Skip it
Do not buy it if you want the full system on day one. Turn on booking, the customer portal, and review requests and that same five-person business is at $99.95. Add a business phone number and it is $109.95, before texts or receptionist calls. At that point GorillaDesk Pro at $99 with unlimited users, or ServiceM8 Starter at $29, deserve a side-by-side on the exact features you would switch on.
The catch
There are three more reasons to hesitate. Payments for saved cards, ACH, and instant payout run through Square, so if you already process with Stripe or your bank, plan on a second account. Support is weekdays 9am to 5pm MST, which matters if you work evenings or sit on the East Coast. And on annual billing, add-ons are charged for the year, with no refunds for early cancellation within a billing period. Turn one on in month two and you have bought it for twelve.
