What it actually does
Marchex is a conversation intelligence and call-attribution company. After a customer talks to your staff (or to an AI agent you already run), Marchex transcribes, scores, and tags what happened: was an appointment set, was the lead a tire-kicker, did the agent sound brusque. Marketing Edge ties those outcomes back to the ad or listing that rang the phone. Sonar is their business SMS product. Bring Your Own Conversations (BYOC) lets you feed call audio you already capture so you do not have to port numbers into Marchex tracking lines.
That is not missed-call text-back. That is not an AI receptionist that picks up when you are on a roof. If the caller needs a person or a bot on the line in the moment, you are shopping Rosie, Smith.ai, or RingCentral AI Receptionist. Marchex listens after the fact and tells marketing and ops what to fix.
The only public monthly cash on the site, checked September 5, 2026, is Engage for Service for auto dealerships. OEM partner signup (marchex.com/new-oem-engage-for-service-sign-up/): $599 for 600 service calls a month, $699 for 1,000, $999 for 2,000, $1,799 for 4,000. Non-OEM signup (marchex.com/new-engage-for-service-sign-up/): $699, $799, $1,099, $1,899 for the same buckets. Everything else, including Marketing Edge for home services and healthcare, is a Contact Sales quote. There is no public marchex.com/pricing page.
Who should buy it
Buy it
Buy it if you run a dealer service desk (or an OEM network of them) and you need to know which calls should have become appointments. Buy the quoted platform if you are a multi-location home-service brand, franchise, or healthcare group with a marketing person who will actually open the missed-opportunity alerts. Abell Pest Control and multi-site dental groups show up in their own case copy for a reason. A four-rooftop HVAC company with ads running and nobody coaching the phones is closer to the design than a solo van.
Skip it
Do not buy it because you wanted the phone answered. That is a different aisle, and Marchex will happily sell you analytics while the voicemail still fills. Do not buy Engage thinking the $599 card is a general small-business plan. The page is written for dealership service volume. Do not stack it on CallRail Lead Tracking at $55 a month unless you have a clear reason the dealer-grade conversation AI is worth the jump. CallRail is the public-price tool for “which Google ad rang.” Marchex is the enterprise conversation layer next to it.
The catch
The reason not to buy, even when the vertical demos look sharp, is the paper and the ICP. Outside Engage, you are in a sales cycle with Custom pricing and no self-serve trial on the homepage. A one-location shop that only needed keyword-level proof will overpay for coaching dashboards nobody opens. If your pain is after-hours pickup, spend the money on a receptionist first.
