What it actually does
Sendblue is Round One, Inc. The product is an iMessage API on a real phone number. The job is more replies and more booked work, not a cheaper green-bubble pipe. Their homepage (August 31, 2026) prints the G2 banners in the hero: 5.0 on G2, Leader Spring 2026, 35,214+ installs, $2.1B generated. Y Combinator, SOC 2 Type II, and HIPAA plans sit next to that. We did not open the G2 listing itself. Those are the banners they bought the fold for.
The thread on an iPhone is a blue bubble: read receipts, typing indicators, photos, voice memos, FaceTime Audio from the same line. If the person is not on iMessage, the same number falls back to RCS, then SMS, at no extra charge. That fallback is how the message still lands. It is not the reason to buy.
It is not missed-call text-back the way Podium is. A missed call does not automatically fire a text unless you wire that. It is not an AI receptionist. It is not Jobber or Housecall Pro. Those two are not named on the public integrations list. HubSpot has its own page. Their docs and integration pages also name Salesforce, Close, GoHighLevel, Monday.com, Follow Up Boss, and Zapier.
Public cards on sendblue.com/pricing (August 31, 2026): Free Sandbox at $0 on a shared number, 10 verified contacts, inbound-first. AI Agent at $100 a month per dedicated line, inbound-first, 1,000 inbound contacts a day, webhooks, media, typing, reactions. Enterprise is Custom, volume-based, full outbound, multiple lines, SOC 2 and HIPAA. They print $0 per-message fees, $0 A2P registration, $0 carrier surcharges, $0 SMS fallback fees. Annual discounts exist. You ask sales.
You can text first. Docs (docs.sendblue.com/limits): on AI Agent, once someone has written you, replies inside 24 hours are unlimited. After that window you can message them first. That follow-up is capped at 200 contacts a day per line. Full outbound, including people who never wrote you, is the Enterprise / Blue Ocean plan behind a demo. New contacts there are 50 a day per line and 15 an hour. Burst is 10 messages a second. A follow-up cap of 150 consecutive outbound messages with no reply cannot be turned off.
They do not support message blasts. The homepage FAQ says so. The terms (March 19, 2025) forbid unsolicited communications, bulk SMS marketing, and spam. You need opt-in before you initiate. Group chats: AI Agent can answer a group it was added to. It cannot create a new one. That is Blue Ocean.
Who should buy it
Buy it
Buy it if the leak is people not writing back and not showing up, and $100 a line is cheap next to a missed job. Real estate on Follow Up Boss is the honest native fit. A plumber can use it if they will wire Zapier and they will not treat it as Jobber’s $29 receptionist. HIPAA is on Enterprise with a BAA. The terms still say do not send PHI without that BAA.
Skip it
Do not buy it if you wanted a missed-call text-back box that fires when the shop line dumps to voicemail. That is still Podium (Custom) or OpenPhone at $19 a user. Do not buy AI Agent to cold-text a list. That is Enterprise, and they still will not let you blast.
The catch
The reason not to buy, even when the G2 banners look clean, is the meter behind the $100 card plus the contract language. Fees on the order form are non-cancellable and non-refundable. Credit cards take a 3% fee. Port in takes 3 to 5 extra days. Port out is $60 a line, and only while the subscription is still active. Once it lapses, the number goes back to the carrier.
