Cons

  • Run's $70 is an introductory price against a $100 list. The AI Receptionist is a separate add-on from $49/mo, and card processing fees apply on Joist Payments

  • Every account is one user with one login, per Joist’s own help center. There is no way to add a crew member.
  • Scheduling and job tracking only arrive on Run. Pro at $17 is the plan most solo contractors would actually pay.
  • 14-day trial of every Run feature with no credit card. The AI Receptionist is a separate add-on from $49 a month.

What it actually does

Joist is an estimating and invoicing app that grew a few business tools around the edges. You build an estimate on your phone in the driveway, the client signs it in the app, you turn it into an invoice, and the client pays by card, by Tap to Pay on your phone, or through homeowner financing. Deposits and milestone payments work on every plan, and you can pass the card fee to the client.

The plans are split by how much paper you send. Basics at $10 a month allows 5 documents a month, which covers someone doing a handful of side jobs and nobody else. Pro at $17 makes documents and clients unlimited and adds your logo, job photos, custom contracts, work orders, expense tracking, and QuickBooks sync. Elite at $32 adds change orders, license and insurance details on documents, sales and business reports, Joist Reviews, and priority email response. Run, the newest plan, adds jobs, visit scheduling, and links between jobs, estimates, invoices, and clients. Its list price is $100, shown today at $70 as a 30% introductory offer. Pay annually and the page shows $8.34, $14.17, $26.67, and $58.33 a month.

Who should buy it

Buy it

Buy it if you work alone and the part of the week you hate is writing estimates at night. Pro at $17 gets you unlimited estimates and invoices with photos, a signature line, and a payment link. The 14-day trial needs no card, so you can send three real estimates to real clients before you pay anything.

Skip it

Do not buy it if anyone else needs to log in. Joist’s help center says plainly that an account is one user with one email and password. A second company means a second account and a second subscription. The moment you hire a helper who needs to see tomorrow’s jobs, you are shopping for new software and moving your client list.

The catch

The Run plan is the harder call. At $70 a month, for one person, you get scheduling that Jobber Core includes at $49 a month for one user on our card, with extra users at $29 each. Kickserv Start is $60 for five users, and ServiceM8 Starter is $29 with unlimited logins. When the introductory discount ends, Run’s list price is $100, so check what you will be billed in month two before you choose it.

Two smaller costs belong in the math. Card processing fees apply on Joist Payments, and the page does not print the rate. The AI Receptionist that answers missed calls is a separate add-on starting at $49 a month.
